Physicochemical Properties |
The products are white or yellow crystals. Melting point is 74 to 75℃. They are freely soluble in water, ethanol, acetone etc.. Slight soluble in benzene, dichloroethane, trichloromethane. Insoluble in petroleum ether. They are stable in acid medium while decompose into ethylene in alkalic term. |
Application
This product is used to accelerate fruit and vegetable ripening speed before harvest and as ripening agent after harvest. Tobacco leafs etiolation and cotton boll growth and defoliation are also could use ethephon to speed process. Stimulate latex fluxion in hevea brasiliensis, prevent cereal and corn crops lodging, urge walnut cortex crack, pineapple and bromeliads bloom, apple and crab apple fruit thinning, remove side branches and alter cucumber pumpkin’s female and staminate flower proportion are other applications of ethephon.

This product is high toxic, irritating and need to sealed storage. Keep away from food, seed and water. Wash thoroughly after use.
